Can we Live in the Tub?

We start out life in a tub of sorts. In the womb, we’re bathed in amniotic fluid. And folks, I have it on good authority, this is one tub we are allowed to pee in. In fact, that is how the fluid gets replenished throughout a pregnancy. In case you weren’t aware, pee is sterile when it emerges.

Remember Desmond Morris’ classic, The Naked Ape? He claims we evolved as a water-bound swimming species. And he cited evidence like the direction our body hair flows in.

We’re mainly city and town folk now, and we have to conserve our water very carefully, but there’s a lot of living to be had in the bath. We all know how relaxing a hot tub or bath is. Great for releasing the day and getting ready for bed.

What else can we do in the tub? Dalton Trumbo wrote his screenplays in the tub, with his typewriter on a board in front of him. He wrote some damn good scripts, including Spartacus, Roman Holiday, and The Sandpiper.

This solves the problem of folks getting ideas in the shower they can’t write down. Get in the tub, get some kind of tray, and write.

Of course, you can eat in the tub — with or without rose petals — and with or without bubbles. Speaking of bubbles, yes, you can drink in the tub but one should always use caution when combining adult beverages and water. It tends to diminish the desired effect.

Seriously though I have heard of a person drinking in the tub, passing out and drowning in two inches of water. So I would not recommend it.

Yes, this is a good way to make workouts more fun. Everything from yoga to stretches to basic calisthenics can be done in or modified for the tub. What’s handy is, you can work up a sweat and get clean all in one fell…
