Christian Ministry Is Meant To Be Paid

4 Have we not power to eat and to drink? 5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? 6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working? 7 Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 8 Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? 12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel. 15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done unto me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

4 우리에게 먹고 마실 권리가 없습니까?

6 어찌 나와 바나바에게만 일하지 않고 먹을 권리가 없겠습니까?

7 자기 비용으로 군대 생활을 할 사람이 어디 있습니까? 포도원을 만들고 포도를 먹지 않을 사람이 누굽니까? 양을 기르는 사람 치고 그 젖을 먹지 않을 사람이 누굽니까?

8 내가 사람의 견지에서만 이것을 말합니까? 율법도 이것을 말하고 있지 않습니까?

10 전적으로 우리를 위해서 하신 말씀이 아닙니까? 그렇습니다. 이것은 우리를 위해 기록된 것입니다. 밭 가는 사람이나 타작하는 사람은 제 몫을 받을 희망을 가지고 일합니다.

11 여러분에게 영적인 씨앗을 뿌린 우리가 물질적인 수확을 거둔다고 해서 이것을 지나친 일이라 할 수 있겠습니까?

12 다른 사람들이 여러분에게 이런 권리를 가졌다면 우리에게는 더욱 큰 권리가 있지 않겠습니까? 그러나 우리는 이 권리를 쓰지 않았고 오히려 그리스도의 기쁜 소식을 전하는 일에 조금이라도 지장이 될까 봐 모든 것을 참아 왔습니다.

13 성전에서 일하는 사람들은 거기서 나오는 것을 먹으며 제단에서 섬기는 사람들은 제물을 나누어 가진다는 것을 모르십니까?

14 이와 같이 주님께서도 기쁜 소식을 전하는 사람들은 그 일을 통해 먹고 살 수 있도록 하셨습니다.

15 그러나 나는 이런 권리를 하나도 사용하지 않았습니다. 그리고 여러분이 나에게 그렇게 해 달라는 뜻에서 내가 이 말을 하는 것이 아닙니다. 나는 죽는 한이 있더라도 내가 자랑으로 여기는 것을 아무도 헛되게 하지 못하게 할 것입니다.

St Paul chose to be a tentmaker in order to not burden the congregation, but that doesn’t mean the labourers in the Gospel aren’t worthy of wages. People take the Scriptures out of context to take advantage of Christian ministers. This ought not so to be. Seers were paid in the olden days, and quite lavishly too.

7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we? 8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way. 9 (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)

7 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל לְנַעֲר֗וֹ וְהִנֵּ֣ה נֵלֵךְ֮ וּמַה־נָּבִ֣יא לָאִישׁ֒ כִּ֤י הַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ אָזַ֣ל מִכֵּלֵ֔ינוּ וּתְשׁוּרָ֥ה אֵין־לְהָבִ֖יא לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים מָ֖ה אִתָּֽנוּ׃

8 וַיֹּ֤סֶף הַנַּ֙עַר֙ לַעֲנ֣וֹת אֶת־שָׁא֔וּל וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הִנֵּה֙ נִמְצָ֣א בְיָדִ֔י רֶ֖בַע שֶׁ֣קֶל כָּ֑סֶף וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ לְאִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהִגִּ֥יד לָ֖נוּ אֶת־דַּרְכֵּֽנוּ׃

9 לְפָנִ֣ים׀ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר הָאִישׁ֙ בְּלֶכְתּוֹ֙ לִדְר֣וֹשׁ אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְכ֥וּ וְנֵלְכָ֖ה עַד־הָרֹאֶ֑ה כִּ֤י לַנָּבִיא֙ הַיּ֔וֹם יִקָּרֵ֥א לְפָנִ֖ים הָרֹאֶֽה׃

And there came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.

42 וְאִ֨ישׁ בָּ֜א מִבַּ֣עַל שָׁלִ֗שָׁה וַיָּבֵא֩ לְאִ֨ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לֶ֤חֶם בִּכּוּרִים֙ עֶשְׂרִֽים־לֶ֣חֶם שְׂעֹרִ֔ים וְכַרְמֶ֖ל בְּצִקְלֹנ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר תֵּ֥ן לָעָ֖ם וְיֹאכֵֽלוּ׃

Is it not better to sow into the spiritual? When Christian authors publish books, don’t you have to buy them with money? What makes the preaching of sermons, prophesying, teaching, counselling and other ministerial activities any different? Dear fellow ministers, if people take you for granted, you better find a better place where people will appreciate your labour.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

8 順從罪惡的本性撒種的，必從罪惡的本性收取敗壞的惡果；順從聖靈撒種的，必從聖靈收取永生。

7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

7 너희는 한집에 머물면서 주인이 주는 것을 먹고 마셔라. 일꾼이 자기 품삯을 받는 것이 마땅하다. 너희는 이집 저집 옮겨 다니지 말아라.

8 어느 마을에 들어가든지 사람들이 너희를 영접하거든 차려 주는 음식을 먹고

9 그 마을에 있는 병자들을 고치고 그들에게 하나님의 나라가 가까웠다고 하라.

10 그러나 그들이 너희를 영접하지 않거든 그 마을 거리로 나와서 이렇게 외쳐라.

11 ‘우리는 발에 묻은 너희 마을의 먼지까지 떨어 버리고 간다. 그러나 하나님의 나라가 가까이 온 줄 알아라.’
